X-Men '97 Set to Explore Iconic, Tragic Comic Book Arcs in Potential Season Two

X-Men '97 is preparing to launch two significant and heart-wrenching story arcs from the comics in its next season, should it get renewed.

The ninth installment of X-Men '97 proved to be quite the spectacle, and its conclusion teases two canonical plots that could dominate the storyline in a yet-to-be-confirmed second season.

Caution: Significant plot revelations incoming for episode nine of X-Men '97!

In the climax of what was an intense and stirring episode, two pivotal moments occur: using his control over magnetism, Magneto forcibly removes Wolverine's metal exoskeleton along with its Adamantium coating; also, faced with Magneto's resolve to annihilate the remnants of humanity, Xavier opts to intrude into his mind forcefully.

These incidents mirror events from the Fatal Attractions series, featured in the 1993 X-Men #25 comic. Despite Magneto's severe action against Wolverine at the episode's close, in the comics, Jean Grey uses her telekinetic abilities to keep Wolverine's skeleton intact. He survives but at a severe personal loss.

Deprived of the Adamantium, Logan turns into a wild beast. Meanwhile, the mental confrontation between Professor Xavier and Magneto gives rise to Onslaught, a malevolent psychic entity that nearly succeeds in eradicating the Avengers and the Fantastic Four until its eventual downfall.

The narrative has continuously touched on tragedies, including the demise of the cherished X-Man Gambit and Jean Grey's clone, Madelyne Pryor, amidst a massacre on the mutant habitation of Genosha. With these events and a statement from the show's creator, Beau DeMayo, hinting at even more grim developments ahead, it seems the series is veering toward a Fatal Attractions storyline.

The initial 9 episodes of X-Men '97 are available for streaming on Disney Plus.
